KUROSUN SAMURAI ― The perfect balance
Introduction
The Kurosun SAMURAI is a logical sequel to its predecessor, the Kurosun NINJA. Like its predecessor, this mat is truly unique, but with an ultra-premium edge.
Experience unboxing & what's in the package
This Kurosun is extremely well packaged when it arrives, in a flat box, and inside there’s a double package again, the first package bearing the identity of “Kurosun” as well as the model of mouse pad present, the second package bearing the design of the mouse pad model (in this case the Samurai), which means that this mouse pad is delivered in 3 package boxes, so we’re pretty sure that no risk during delivery is imaginable.
It’s important to note that a sheet (such as cuission paper) is attached to the base to help the pad retain its flat shape during transport.
Kurosun hasn’t neglected the customer experience when unboxing this mouse pad, and there’s a lot inside:
- Flat package (double boxed)
- Welcome card
- A care instructions card
- A Kurosun logo sticker
Base
The alpha-cell base, surely identical to the one used on its predecessor (the Kurosun Ninja), is still excellent, and in fact one of the bases I appreciate the most of all my mouse pads. It adheres very well to my desk, but doesn’t have that overly pronounced “electrostatic” effect, which is rather pleasant when you clean your installation quite regularly and have to remove the mouse pad.
The base still sticks very well after removing this mouse pad from my desk to clean it, every time the sticky base does the job you expect of it. So the mouse pad always stays in place after being removed from the desk several times.
Surface
The part you’re most looking forward to: the surface! The Samurai has more control than the Ninja, but it’s still not a true control surface.
From my experimentation and various tests, I’d associate the speed of this Kurosun Samurai with a GSR-SE Grey, yet this Kurosun Samurai has excellent stopping power, making it very versatile in different scenarios.
For example, I appreciated this mouse pad just as much in my recent gaming sessions on tracking-oriented games (Call of Duty MWIII, Battlefield 2042, xDefiant) as I did in scenarios requiring much greater precision in my aim on tac-fps (VALORANT, CS2)
This surface is also very soft and pleasant to the touch, I’ve used it constantly without using sleeves and I’ve never felt any discomfort on my skin because of the surface or even the stitched edges, which are not felt in the long term.
My conclusion
In conclusion, this Kurosun Samurai is an excellent discovery for me, and I’m not surprised because I expected nothing less from this Kurosun after having been able to experiment and try out Kurosun’s first mouse pad, the Ninja.
It’s clear that the brand has understood the community’s expectations and is responding perfectly to them by offering a product of very high quality, mastered and quite unique, while retaining a minimalist and very pretty design. Where other brands tend to use AI or designs that are a little… daring and bare.
Apart from the overall quality and design, the performance of this mouse pad is just as good as the rest, with a “balanced” surface that perfectly meets the expectations we’ve come to expect from this kind of surface. It’s a highly versatile surface, yet one that offers considerable stability thanks to its exceptional stopping power and constant glide.
The Kurosun Samurai will be available on June 19, directly from the Kurosun website at a price of 49$, or from partner retailers in your country. More information on Kurosun’s twitter page.
