FINALMOUSE ULX ― The weight of freedom

Introduction

The Ultralight X is the latest addition to Finalmouse’s lineup, weighing in at just 38 grams according to copies, making it the lightest mouse on the market in a medium size. This weight is made possible by its composite carbon fiber chassis, a new material that replaces the magnesium used by Finalmouse in the past, notably on its Starlight. This mouse is destined for continuous production, and no longer as a drop limited to a certain number of copies.

Weight and shape

Its weight of 38 grams gives it the advantage of being able to perform movements with ease, while still maintaining proper control of the mouse! Its popular shape, considered one of the favorite shapes in the peripherals world, makes it easy to use as a relaxed or aggressive claw-grip, and if you’ve got a big hand like me, you can use it as a finger-tip quite easily.

Construction quality (Batch 1)

This first drop of batch 1 has been much criticized, notably due to the fact that the overall build quality on certain models was quite poor, with users reporting a lot of flex on certain parts of the mouse; these concerns, recognized by Finalmouse, have since been corrected, as for my unit, which comes from the first drop and batch number 1, I haven’t encountered any quality issues, my mouse is solid, doesn’t flex under normal pressure similar to what we exert in games, on the whole I haven’t encountered any issues throughout my use, i.e. a little over a month, on a daily basis on different games.

This concern about quality and defects is often recurrent at Finalmouse, nevertheless efforts and improvements have been greatly applied to this model, corrections have been made for the following drops and therefore would ensure you get a model without manufacturing problems.

Skates, the flat format (finally)

As far as the default skates are concerned, I think they’re pretty good, but of course you can change them to suit your personal preferences and habits without any trouble at all, because on this model, the base of the mouse is totally flat and no longer has any edges like on the Starlight mice, so you can apply any pads to this mouse, whatever its shape.

The webpanel and its firmware (battery, performance)

The big change with this mouse is that we now have access to web-based software called XPanel, enabling you to modify DPI, polling-rate, update firmware and also check the reliability of your mouse’s wireless signal, to name but a few.

Until now, Finalmouse didn’t have any software to control your mouse, but this implementation is a big plus, allowing you to easily modify your mouse’s parameters, the panel is very intuitive and easy to use,

You can choose between 5 DPI thresholds, ranging from 400 to 6400 DPI, you can also set the LOD between 1mm and 2mm, which allows you to choose the “detection height” of your mouse sensor. This is simply the point at which the mouse stops detecting your movements when you lift it.

You can also choose the polling-rate of your mouse between 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz for the moment, and in the future you’ll be able to choose 8000 Hz, which is currently being tested by Finalmouse engineers. To find out more about the usefulness and advantages of polling-rate, I invite you to join the Discord server in the video description, where you’ll find an explanatory guide to polling-rate.

You can also choose whether or not to activate your mouse’s Motion Sync and choose your dongle’s light, between switching it off, choosing the level of light and switching it on or off.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I’d recommend this mouse for the innovation that Finalmouse brings to every new model they release, notably here by using composite carbon fiber materials while integrating sufficiently good and modern components internally to achieve excellent wireless technology, allowing you to soon enjoy 8000 Hz polling-rate, enjoy web-software without needing to download anything and configure your mouse very easily.

This model is destined for continuous sales and rapid delivery once production is sufficiently stable, so overall build quality should be further improved and manufacturing worries should be rare.
